My family and I enjoy going hog hunting in other states. I see we have some concentrations of hogs down in Southern Ohio and wondered if there are decent populations of hogs on public ground. I would live to spend a weekend early spring(before turkey season) hunting for those pigs. Can anybody shed some light on this subject?

your best bet would be to call the wildlife headquarters down in Athens. they will be more then willing to help you out.

DNR website addresses this issue with problematic hog areas detailed. Good luck hunting hogs in Ohio I hunted a particular hog for 4 years in Southeast Ohio. He was harvested by a bowhunter hunting whitetails and weighed 375#

In God We Trust everyone else take the hunter safety course.

If you have a link could you provide it please. I looked on the DNR website and can't find anything about Hogs, not even under nuisance species.

I know what you mean. I don't feel like driving 4 hours to hunt Mr. Piggy. If he wants to die he can come further North Very Happy

Ohio Division of Wildlife site has map of what counties the wild boars are in.
I asked about where to get the wild boars procesed and was told to check with each county wildlife office and ask them.
Farmers and landowners who have the wild boars tearing up their lands should call in to each county office and list their names and phone numbers so we hunters can contact them and help the landowners and farmers as well as help us hunting the wild boars in OHIO.

Would be nice to have farmers and landowners who have wild boar on their land to call and list their names and phone numbers at the county wildlife offices so we can contact them and hunt the wild boar!
If the hunter wants to keep the wild boar or share with the farmer or landowners, or donate to help feed the hungry would benefit all!
This would help control the wild boar feed people too and supply hunters a place to hunt in the counties that have the wild boar near the hunter Very Happy

I know one wildlife officer that wont tell you where the hogs are, he wants them for himself Evil or Very Mad. I have asked him on numerous occasions where they are and he says their aint any here. the sad part is according to the map, they are with in a 30 minute drive from here, but if you can't get a starting point from the WO, whats the since in knocking on doors to find them, I cant afford the gas to do it.

personally I don't think the state wants them shot, they are looking at them as more $$$ for the state, once they get a big herd of them in the state, like the southern states.
