Wow, I was going to invite to go one day then I looked up where Minerva was. I am not sure when they start popping around you. I know that when they are coming up here around Dayton they do not start popping for another two weeks over in WV around the cabin.
There is not exact time for when they start getting up. But if you type in morels on goggle you will find a few sights that are just for shroom hunters. As for a place to start looking. I know some feel that elms, maple, oak or some other tree is best. I say it has more to do with what is in the ground. One of my best spots is an over grown trash dump on an old farm. Someone has covered the trash over with dirt years ago and now it just sprouts them like weeds. If you are hunting old forest look at where yellow root grows. I tend to find good numbers around where that grows. But the best bet is to just go for a walk and keep looking.
PS be careful some people are allergic to what is called false morels. If you are not sure exactly what you are going after get a book. I carry a book just to find out what other shrooms are. Great way to pass the time when turkey hunting and birds are not around me.
Just enjoying the preparation.
