My bow still generates 96ftlbs of KE at 100yds. It's not the "killing power" that's the issue. It's the fact that it almost takes an entire second to reach the target at 100yds. As we all know, that's forever for a whitetail. That's plenty of time for them to move. Another thing is the 5 FEET of trajectory I have to negotiate. Unless I'm hunting an open field, chances are a branch will snag my arrow on the way to the target. I still prefer my shots to be 30yds and under and appreciating that extra KE I've got will pull me through in case I clip a shoulder blade.
Those who think crossbows are "string rifles" are in for a rude awakening. You'll get better trajectory from a modern, high end compound. Reason being the longer arrow means flatter flight-just like the higher BC a bullet, the flatter it's trajectory.
